Starpoint Communications, Inc has now been contacted by several of our clients who have recently received calls regarding computer  viruses.

The caller claims to work for a computer company and expresses concerns about a rampant computer virus spreading into your area.  To make their story more convincing they will "verify" your residential or business address.

To assist you, the caller offers to fix your situation remotely. They will want you to download a remote desktop program such as Team Viewer. Once in your computer, they may gain access to important information.  They can even install software to capture your keystrokes and obtain passwords to bank accounts etc...

There is a note on the Minnesota Attorney General's website regarding such scams. If you are the victim of such fraud, there is information there for you to take immediate action.
